Houston, Texas – Visibility could drop below one-quarter mile along I-45 late tonight before strong storms bring 60 mph wind potential Saturday afternoon across Southeast Texas.

According to the National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston, areas of fog are expected to develop overnight across inland and coastal communities. Probabilities indicate pockets of visibility below one-quarter mile between midnight and early Friday morning, especially near Galveston, Lake Jackson, and parts of the Houston metro.

Drivers along Interstate 45, Interstate 10, U.S. Highway 59, and Highway 6 may encounter rapidly changing visibility before sunrise Friday. Officials advise slowing down, using low-beam headlights, and allowing extra travel time.

Attention then shifts to Saturday, when showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop during the afternoon and evening as a weak cold front moves through Southeast Texas. The entire region is under a Level 1 of 5 Marginal Risk for severe weather.

Forecasters say a few storms could become strong to severe. Primary hazards include damaging wind gusts, locally heavy rainfall, small hail, and frequent lightning. An isolated brief tornado cannot be ruled out.

Storm activity is expected to move east Saturday night, with improving conditions by early Sunday morning.

The timing may affect weekend travel, outdoor events, and early Valentine’s gatherings across Houston, College Station, and Beaumont.

Residents are urged to remain weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings, particularly during the overnight fog and Saturday’s storm window.
