Omaha, Nebraska – Light rain chances up to 60% could affect areas along I-80 Friday night into Saturday, with the highest probabilities in southeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, scattered light rain is possible beginning Friday evening and continuing into Saturday. Rain chances range from 15% to 60%, with the strongest potential focused near the Nebraska-Kansas border.

Forecasters indicate the highest probabilities, between 40% and 60%, are expected in communities including Beatrice, Fairbury, Falls City, and Nebraska City. Areas farther north, including Norfolk and portions of northeast Nebraska, may see lower chances closer to 15% to 25%.

Rainfall amounts are expected to remain light for most locations. However, up to one-quarter inch of rain is possible near the Nebraska-Kansas state line.

Major travel corridors including Interstate 80 through Omaha and Lincoln, U.S. Highway 75 near Nebraska City, Interstate 29 near Council Bluffs, and U.S. Highway 77 south of Lincoln could experience brief wet pavement, particularly Saturday morning.

No flooding or severe weather is expected with this system. The rainfall may provide minor moisture relief to dry soils but is not anticipated to produce significant impacts.

Weekend travelers, high school activities, and early Saturday commuters may encounter intermittent light showers depending on location.

Forecasters will continue monitoring trends and update timing details if rainfall coverage increases.
