Jackson, Mississippi – Isolated severe storms could produce 60 mph wind gusts and possible tornadoes along I-55 Saturday night into early Sunday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, a Level 1 Marginal Risk for severe weather has been outlined across much of central and southern Mississippi. The primary threat window runs from 7 p.m. Saturday through 8 a.m. Sunday.
Forecasters say isolated severe storms will be possible during this period. Damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph are the main hazard, though tornadoes cannot be ruled out with stronger storms that develop overnight.
Communities including Jackson, Vicksburg, Natchez, Hattiesburg, and Meridian fall within the outlined risk area. Major travel corridors such as Interstate 55, Interstate 20, Interstate 59, U.S. Highway 49, and U.S. Highway 61 could see periods of heavy rain, gusty winds, and reduced visibility.
The overnight timing may increase risk for residents who are asleep when warnings are issued. The National Weather Service advises having multiple ways to receive alerts, including weather radios and mobile notifications.
Localized power outages and downed tree limbs are possible where stronger wind gusts occur. While the overall threat level remains low, even marginal risk events can produce isolated severe impacts.
Saturday night events and early Sunday travel may be affected depending on storm development.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts as timing and storm intensity details become clearer.
