Joliet, Illinois – A 28-year-old man faces multiple felony charges after police linked him to a series of vehicle burglaries across Joliet.
According to the Joliet Police Department, officers responded around 7:38 p.m. Saturday, February 7, to reports of burglaries in the 900 block of North Hickory Street. An unlocked Kia Optima parked in a west alley was entered, and a bag was taken. Video footage reportedly showed a man exiting the vehicle and walking northbound.
Police later responded to a second burglary involving an unlocked Chevrolet Malibu in the same area. The victim discovered the theft after receiving a bank notification about a fraudulent transaction, and investigators determined stolen credit cards had been used.
Officers identified the suspect as Keenan Curl, 28, who is homeless. Curl was initially encountered earlier that evening and found in possession of credit cards linked to the burglaries, police said. He was later arrested near Bridge Street and North Broadway around 8 p.m.
Further investigation allegedly connected Curl to at least three additional vehicle burglaries, including incidents on January 8 in the 600 block of Virginia Street and February 10 in the 800 block of North Hickory Street. In one case, a handgun was reported stolen.
Curl was charged with multiple counts including burglary to a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a credit card, aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a stolen firearm, and violation of pre-trial release. Police said he was on parole at the time of the offenses and was transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.
The department reminds residents to lock vehicles and remove valuables, noting unlocked cars remain common burglary targets — particularly for students and young workers who park overnight.
