Countryside, Illinois – Countryside police issued 35 seat belt citations during Super Bowl enforcement, officials announced Tuesday.
According to the Countryside Police Department, officers also issued nine additional traffic citations and made one arrest for a suspended driver’s license during the enforcement period.
The enforcement campaign ran from Friday, Feb. 6, through the early morning hours of Monday, Feb. 9, as part of statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” initiatives.
“Motorists should understand that we are serious about cracking down on impaired drivers and seat belt and other traffic safety law violators. We do it to save lives,” Sgt. Michael Maher said in a statement. He added that impairment from alcohol, cannabis or other drugs puts everyone at risk.
Police said the primary focus of the campaign was increasing seat belt use and deterring impaired driving during one of the year’s busiest travel weekends.
The enforcement effort was funded through federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Super Bowl weekend enforcement campaigns often target high-traffic periods when gatherings and travel increase, particularly affecting late-night drivers and young adults attending watch parties.
Officials did not release information about the locations of the citations or the identity of the individual arrested.
