Grand Junction, Colorado – Mountain snow of up to 6 inches may impact travel along I-70 through Thursday afternoon.

According to the US National Weather Service in Grand Junction, a spring-like system continues to move through western Colorado, bringing valley rain and accumulating snow in the mountains. Heavier snow showers are expected this morning across northern and central mountain ranges before tapering off later in the day.

Storm totals through tonight are forecast to reach several inches in higher elevations, particularly along and north of the I-70 corridor. Valley locations, including Grand Junction and Montrose, are seeing mostly rain showers with limited accumulation.

Lingering snow showers will persist in the mountains tonight. By Friday afternoon and evening, another round of showers is expected to develop, with increased coverage over the San Juan Mountains. A few inches of additional snow are possible above 8,000 feet, while lower elevations may see rain.

Motorists traveling along I-70 near Glenwood Canyon and Vail Pass, US-50 between Montrose and Gunnison, US-160 near Durango and CO-145 toward Telluride may encounter slick, snow-packed stretches during heavier bursts.

Forecasters indicate the weekend will trend drier before another system approaches Monday night.

Drivers, including commercial vehicles crossing high mountain passes, should allow extra travel time and monitor updated road conditions.
