Albany, New York – Snow chances up to 60% Saturday could create slick travel along I-87 and other Capital Region roadways.
According to the US National Weather Service in Albany, temperatures will be more comfortable compared to last weekend as the workweek winds down. Highs Thursday and Friday are expected to range from the upper 20s to mid-30s across eastern New York and western New England.
Precipitation chances increase Saturday as a system approaches the region. Forecast data shows snow probabilities reaching 40% to 60% across portions of the Adirondacks, Mohawk Valley and upper Hudson Valley, including areas near Glens Falls, Herkimer and Old Forge. Lower elevations, including Albany, Schenectady and Poughkeepsie, carry precipitation chances closer to 30%.
By Sunday, precipitation chances shift toward rain in many valley locations, with probabilities generally between 20% and 30%. Mountain areas could see a mix of rain and snow, depending on elevation and surface temperatures.
Motorists traveling along I-87 (Northway), I-90 through the Capital Region, I-88 toward Oneonta and I-84 near the Mid-Hudson Valley may encounter wet or slushy conditions Saturday, especially during periods of steadier precipitation.
Temperatures are forecast to moderate into the 30s and near 40 degrees in some valley areas by Sunday and Monday, limiting widespread winter impacts outside higher terrain.
Drivers, including those traveling for holiday weekend events, should monitor updated forecasts and remain alert for changing road conditions Saturday into Sunday.
