Richmond, Indiana – Rain could transition to a wintry mix along the Indiana–Ohio state line Wednesday, potentially creating slick travel conditions near the Interstate 70 corridor.

According to the National Weather Service, a midweek storm system is expected to bring steady rain to eastern Indiana and western Ohio before colder air filters into the region. As temperatures fall toward freezing, rain may mix with or briefly change to sleet or wet snow, particularly late Wednesday into the evening hours.

Communities near the state line — including Richmond and Union City in Indiana and Eaton and Greenville in Ohio — could experience periods of mixed precipitation. While widespread accumulation is not currently expected, even light sleet or wet snow may reduce visibility and create slippery stretches on untreated roads, bridges and overpasses.

Forecasters say the exact timing of the rain-to-mix transition will depend on how quickly colder air moves in behind the system. Small temperature variations could determine whether most areas remain rain-dominant or see minor slushy accumulation.

Drivers along Interstate 70, U.S. Route 40 and State Road 27 should remain alert for changing road conditions, especially during the late afternoon and evening commute.

Meteorologists advise monitoring updated forecasts as precipitation types and temperatures may fluctuate.

Commuters and students crossing the Indiana–Ohio state line may want to allow extra travel time Wednesday if conditions deteriorate.
