Rhode Island – The cold air has bite this morning, and frost clings to windshields across Providence. Side streets still hold patches of refrozen moisture as temperatures sit near 27°F under clear skies.
According to the National Weather Service in Norton, highs climb to about 35°F with light northwest winds. Sunshine dominates through the afternoon, but once the sun dips, temperatures fall quickly. Lows drop to around 14°F tonight. Any melting that occurs during the day may refreeze by evening.
That raises a flash-freeze concern on untreated roads, especially along I-95 and Route 6. Bridges and overpasses cool first. Slow down during the late-day commute and watch shaded spots.
Friday turns sunny with a high near 36°F. Clouds increase Friday night with a slight, 20% chance of snow showers after midnight. Lows settle near 19°F. Valentine’s Day Saturday features a mix of sun and clouds with a high near 39°F. A brief snow shower cannot be ruled out early, but most of the day stays dry.
Sunday remains mostly sunny and cool, topping out near 39°F. By Sunday night, a 30% chance of snow develops after midnight with lows around 25°F. Even light snow in February can create slick patches if pavement temperatures hover near freezing.
Looking ahead, NOAA’s 6–10 day outlook favors above-normal temperatures across New England. Highs may reach the low to mid-40s by Tuesday and Wednesday as a gradual thaw sets in. Spring vibes are inching closer.
