Pueblo, CO – Light to moderate snowfall will continue across Colorado’s higher terrain tonight into Thursday, while southeastern plains remain dry and warmer.
According to the US National Weather Service in Pueblo, moisture within southwest flow aloft will support additional snowfall along the Continental Divide through Thursday afternoon. Snow is expected primarily in the mountains west of Interstate 25, including areas near Monarch Pass, Wolf Creek Pass, and U.S. Highway 24.
Additional accumulations through 5 p.m. Thursday may range from several inches to locally higher totals along the Divide. Snow-covered roads and periods of reduced visibility are possible across elevated routes, including U.S. Highway 50 near Salida and mountain corridors west of Colorado Springs.
In contrast, dry conditions are forecast across the southeastern plains. High temperatures Thursday are expected to run 10 to 15 degrees above seasonal averages in communities including Pueblo, Trinidad, La Junta, and Lamar.
Forecast highs Thursday include upper 50s to mid-60s along the Interstate 25 corridor from Pueblo to Trinidad, while mountain locations remain cooler, with highs in the 30s and 40s.
Travelers crossing higher elevations tonight into Thursday should prepare for winter driving conditions, especially along U.S. 50 and U.S. 24 west of I-25. Conditions across lower elevations, including I-25 near Pueblo and Colorado Springs, are expected to remain mainly dry.
Students and early commuters traveling through mountain passes Thursday morning may encounter slick spots before temperatures rise later in the day.
