Louisville, Kentucky – Rainfall totals between 0.75 and 1.50 inches could impact travel across central Kentucky this weekend.
According to the US National Weather Service in Louisville, dry weather will continue through the end of the workweek, with temperatures slightly below normal and chilly nights. Conditions are expected to turn slightly warmer Friday before the next weather system increases rain chances beginning late Saturday and continuing into Sunday.
Forecasters say moderate to locally heavy rainfall is possible, with projected totals ranging from three-quarters of an inch to one and a half inches across much of the region. Cities including Louisville, Lexington, Elizabethtown and Bowling Green — near Interstate 65, Interstate 64, Interstate 75 and the Western Kentucky Parkway — could see steady rainfall Sunday.
High temperatures will gradually warm into the 50s this weekend after cooler conditions earlier in the week. Overnight lows are expected to remain chilly through Friday before moderating slightly.
While widespread flooding is not currently forecast in this update, periods of heavier rain may lead to ponding on low-lying roads and reduced visibility for drivers, especially Sunday.
Travelers along I-65, I-64 and I-75 should prepare for wet pavement and slower travel times late in the weekend.
Students, churchgoers and weekend commuters may want to monitor forecast updates as rainfall timing becomes clearer.
Rain is expected to taper off late Sunday or early Monday as the system exits the region.
