Dallas, Texas – Widespread showers and up to 2 inches of rain could affect North Texas late Friday through Saturday night, impacting travel along major interstate corridors.

According to the US National Weather Service in Fort Worth, rain chances will increase late Friday as a storm system moves into the region. Forecasters expect widespread showers and a few thunderstorms through Saturday, with most areas receiving between 1 and 2 inches of rainfall.

The agency noted that isolated strong storms are possible Saturday afternoon, particularly across Central Texas. However, widespread severe weather is not currently anticipated.

Rain is expected to begin Friday night and continue through much of Saturday before shifting east by Saturday night. Major travel routes including Interstate 35E, Interstate 30, Interstate 20, and US Highway 75 could experience periods of reduced visibility and ponding on roadways during heavier downpours.

Drivers traveling Friday night or Saturday should allow extra time and remain alert for slick conditions, especially during peak shopping and weekend travel hours. Localized minor flooding in low-lying or poor-drainage areas cannot be ruled out if heavier rainfall bands develop.

Before the system arrives, temperatures are forecast to climb into the mid-70s to low 80s Thursday. Sunshine is expected to return for the second half of the weekend into early next week, with highs rebounding into the mid to upper 70s by Tuesday.

The rainfall may impact students, service workers, and weekend commuters traveling along the I-35 and I-30 corridors.
