South Bend, Indiana – Colder temperatures and northwest wind gusts up to 25 mph are expected today, affecting travel along US-31 and I-80 across northern Indiana.

According to the National Weather Service Northern Indiana, low clouds will linger through much of the day, though occasional breaks of sun are possible. High temperatures will range from around 30 degrees across south-central Lower Michigan and parts of northeast Indiana to near 40 degrees across west-central Indiana.

Northwest winds between 10 and 20 mph, with gusts reaching 25 mph, may create breezy conditions along Interstate 69 near Fort Wayne, Interstate 80/90 near Elkhart and South Bend, and Interstate 94 toward Benton Harbor. While widespread precipitation is not expected, the colder air may keep some untreated surfaces slick early in the day.

Tonight, lows are forecast to fall between 19 and 23 degrees under mostly cloudy skies. Thursday will remain cool, with highs ranging from 30 to 41 degrees depending on location.

Forecasters say temperatures will moderate Friday, climbing into the 36 to 48 degree range with dry conditions expected to persist. The temperature difference from southwest to northeast will continue through the work week before leveling out heading into the weekend.

Commuters, school bus riders, and delivery drivers should plan for breezy conditions and colder air before milder weather arrives Friday.
