Springfield, Illinois – Mild February temperatures will continue across central Illinois, with highs climbing into the 40s and low 50s and a 20 to 40 percent rain chance late Saturday into Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, conditions will remain above seasonal averages through the remainder of the week and gradually warm heading into the weekend.
High temperatures Wednesday are forecast between 42 and 47 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Thursday will see highs between 43 and 49 degrees, followed by upper 40s to mid-50s Friday and Saturday. Typical mid-February highs in central Illinois are generally in the upper 30s to near 40 degrees.
Drivers along Interstate 55 through Springfield and Bloomington, Interstate 74 near Champaign, Interstate 57 toward Effingham, and U.S. Route 36 near Decatur can expect dry pavement through Friday as mild air remains in place.
The best opportunity for measurable rainfall arrives late Saturday into early Sunday, with precipitation chances ranging from 20 to 40 percent. Forecasters note the highest rain chances will likely occur across southern portions of central Illinois.
While widespread impacts are not expected, fluctuating temperatures may produce isolated slick spots overnight if brief showers occur and temperatures dip.
