Michigan drivers are stepping into a raw February morning with overcast skies hanging low over the Detroit skyline. Temperatures sit near 36 degrees, but a west wind around 9 mph pushes wind chills closer to 29. The air feels damp and heavy, and pavement remains cold to the touch.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, highs reach only about 31 degrees this afternoon under mostly cloudy skies. West-northwest winds increase to 8 to 14 mph, with gusts up to 22 mph. That breeze will keep wind chills locked in the 20s for much of the day.

No significant snow is expected, but melting and refreezing remain concerns. Temperatures fall quickly after sunset, dropping to around 20 degrees tonight. Any leftover moisture on I-75, I-94 or the Lodge Freeway could harden into black ice. This is prime flash-freeze season across southeast Michigan. Bridges and overpasses freeze first.

Thursday stays cold with a high near 30 degrees and partial sunshine. Friday begins a slow rebound, reaching 38 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Valentine’s Weekend Feb. 13-15 looks brighter and slightly milder, with highs in the upper 30s Saturday and near 39 Sunday.

Early next week trends warmer. Highs climb toward 40 Monday and into the lower 40s by Tuesday. The 6–10 day outlook favors above-average temperatures across the Great Lakes, signaling gradual improvement as mid-February progresses.
