Delaware – A sharp chill lingers over Wilmington this morning, and at 33 degrees, any damp pavement could turn slick in shaded areas as winds begin to increase.

Skies show a few clouds, but the air feels colder than the thermometer suggests. Calm conditions earlier are giving way to a strengthening west wind. Along I-95, Route 202, and the Delaware Memorial Bridge, drivers should prepare for gusty crosswinds by late morning.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will climb to around 42 degrees this afternoon. West winds increase to 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. That breeze can push vehicles in open stretches and scatter light debris onto roadways.

Flash freezing remains a risk this time of year. When daytime melting occurs and temperatures dip back toward freezing, thin ice can form quickly. Elevated roadways and parking lots are especially vulnerable. Slow down and allow extra stopping distance.

Skies clear tonight with lows near 27 degrees. Thursday turns partly sunny with a high near 36, followed by a colder night near 20 degrees. Sunshine dominates Friday with highs near 37.

Valentine’s Weekend looks brighter and milder. Saturday climbs to around 43 degrees under sunny skies. Sunday brings a chance of rain during the day, with highs near 42. A rain and snow mix becomes possible Sunday night as temperatures fall into the lower 30s.

Looking into early next week, highs trend upward into the mid to upper 40s by Tuesday. Broader signals point to above-normal temperatures building across the Mid-Atlantic over the next 6 to 10 days.
