Rhode Island – Dense fog hangs low over Providence this morning, and at 32 degrees, that mist is clinging to cold pavement and railings, creating slick spots across the city.

Visibility has dipped at times near T.F. Green Airport, where temperatures sit right at freezing. Side streets, bridge decks, and ramps along I-95 and Route 6 could turn slippery where moisture settles and freezes.

According to the National Weather Service, a slight chance of snow lingers early with temperatures holding near 33 degrees through midmorning. Skies turn mostly sunny later today, and highs reach about 38 degrees. Northwest winds increase to 6 to 11 mph with gusts near 22 mph.

Even without steady snowfall, February brings hidden hazards. Fog droplets can freeze on contact when surfaces remain below 32 degrees. That thin glaze is hard to see but easy to slide on. Slow down on overpasses and allow extra distance between vehicles.

Colder air returns tonight as skies partially clear and temperatures fall to around 21 degrees. Thursday stays mostly sunny with a high near 34, followed by a sharp drop to about 14 degrees Thursday night.

Friday remains bright with highs near 35. Valentine’s Weekend looks seasonable. Saturday climbs to 37 under mostly sunny skies. A 30% chance of snow develops late Friday night into early Saturday, mainly before 2 a.m., but no major accumulation is expected at this time.

Early next week trends milder, with highs pushing into the upper 30s and near 40 by Monday and Tuesday. Longer-range signals hint at a gradual late-winter thaw heading toward mid-February’s second half.
