Los Angeles, California – Rainfall is expected to intensify across Southern California tonight as a fast-moving storm system pushes east, bringing travel impacts along major corridors including Interstate 5, U.S. 101, and State Route 1 through Wednesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard, the main band of rain will move quickly across the region late tonight into early Wednesday. Rainfall totals of 0.50 to 1.00 inch are expected for many coastal and valley areas, while 1.00 to 2.50 inches may fall across foothills and mountain locations in Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo counties.

Forecasters say rainfall rates could briefly reach 0.2 to 0.4 inches per hour, with locally higher amounts in favored mountain and foothill areas. While widespread flooding is not anticipated, minor flooding, debris flows, and rockslides are possible, especially near recent burn scars and steep terrain.

Light snow is expected at higher elevations, with 3 to 6 inches of accumulation above 6,000 feet, which could affect travel along mountain routes connected to I-5 and I-210. In addition, gusty southerly winds may produce isolated downed trees or power lines, particularly in exposed areas.

The heaviest impacts are expected overnight through early Wednesday, when reduced visibility, slick roads, and ponding of water may affect commuters and overnight travelers along US-101, CA-118, and CA-126.

Officials urge drivers to slow down in wet conditions, avoid flooded roadways, and allow extra travel time. Conditions are expected to gradually improve by late Wednesday as the system exits the region.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts and heed any advisories issued overnight.
