Cleveland, Ohio – A cold front moving through northern Ohio this evening is bringing cooler temperatures and increasing chances for lake effect snow near Interstate 90, with impacts expected to continue into Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a few light rain showers may develop ahead of the front this evening, mainly across far northeast Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania. As colder air moves in overnight, rain showers are expected to transition to lake effect snow showers, particularly downwind of Lake Erie.

Forecasters say trace amounts up to around one inch of snow are possible for much of northeast Ohio, including areas along I-90, I-71, and I-77. Farther east into northwest Pennsylvania, snowfall totals could reach 1 to 4 inches, especially in lake-enhanced snowbelt areas near Interstate 79 and Route 5.

Temperatures will steadily fall overnight, with lows dropping into the upper 20s to low 30s by Wednesday morning. Daytime highs Wednesday are expected to remain cooler, generally in the low to mid-30s, which may allow snow showers to linger through the day.

While widespread heavy snow is not expected, brief reductions in visibility and slick spots on bridges and untreated roads are possible, particularly during early-morning and evening travel periods. Lake effect activity will gradually diminish Wednesday night as winds shift and moisture decreases.

The return of colder air may affect commuters, students, and freight traffic, especially along the Ohio Turnpike (I-80/90) corridor and routes near the lakeshore.

Drivers are advised to monitor road conditions, allow extra travel time, and remain alert for rapidly changing weather conditions through Wednesday.
