Wichita, Kansas – Colder overnight temperatures are expected across central Kansas tonight, with lows dropping into the upper 20s and lower 30s along major roadways including Interstate 135 and Interstate 35.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, temperatures tonight will fall to around 27 degrees in Russell and Great Bend, 28 in Salina, and 30 to 31 degrees in Wichita, Hutchinson, and Harper. While no winter precipitation is expected, the colder air may be noticeable for early-morning drivers, particularly along I-135, I-35, US-54, and US-50.

Forecasters say temperatures will rebound quickly after tonight, with seasonably mild conditions expected through the end of the work week. Highs on Wednesday are forecast to range from 53 to 58 degrees, warming further on Thursday with highs between 60 and 67 degrees across much of central and south-central Kansas.

By Friday afternoon and evening, modest rain chances return to the forecast. The best potential for rainfall — estimated at 20 to 40 percent — is expected across southern Kansas, including areas near US-54 and US-400. High temperatures Friday are forecast to range from 58 to 62 degrees, with overnight lows staying above freezing.

The rain is expected to be light and scattered, with no severe weather anticipated at this time. However, changing conditions late Friday could affect evening commuters and highway travel, especially in southern portions of the state.

Residents are encouraged to dress for colder temperatures tonight and stay aware of forecast updates as rain chances increase later in the week.
