North and Central Texas – Light rain showers are expected to increase in coverage later this evening and continue overnight into Wednesday morning, with minimal rainfall totals but potential travel impacts across major corridors including Interstates 35, 20, and 30.
According to the National Weather Service office in Fort Worth, sprinkles and areas of light rain are developing this afternoon, becoming more widespread overnight. Forecast rainfall totals across North and Central Texas are expected to remain generally under one-tenth of an inch, limiting flooding concerns but increasing the likelihood of wet road surfaces during overnight and early morning travel.
Temperatures this afternoon are expected to range from the mid-60s to mid-70s across the region, including the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex, Waco, Killeen, and surrounding communities. Overnight lows will fall into the 40s and 50s as cloud cover and light rain persist.
A weak cold front is forecast to move through the region late tonight into Wednesday morning. Behind the front, slightly cooler conditions are expected Wednesday, with highs generally in the mid-60s to near 70 degrees. Isolated light showers may linger into the daytime hours Wednesday, particularly east and southeast of the Metroplex.
While rainfall amounts are forecast to remain light, commuters traveling overnight or during the Wednesday morning drive should anticipate damp pavement and reduced traction, especially along I-35 through the Dallas–Fort Worth area, I-20 across North Texas, and connecting highways.
No severe weather is expected with this system, and the National Weather Service emphasized that impacts should remain limited. However, drivers are encouraged to allow extra stopping distance and remain alert for changing road conditions during periods of light rain.
The timing of the rain may be especially relevant for early-morning commuters, students, and shift workers traveling before sunrise Wednesday.
