Springfield, Missouri – Rain chances will fluctuate across southern Missouri this week, with light showers possible Tuesday evening before a more widespread rainfall event develops late Friday and continues into the weekend.
According to the US National Weather Service in Springfield, most of the region will remain dry through Wednesday after a brief chance for light showers tonight. Any rainfall this evening is expected to be limited and focused mainly southeast of a line from Eminence to Gainesville, with probabilities ranging from 20 to 30 percent.
Dry and mild conditions are forecast for Wednesday, with daytime highs reaching the low to mid-60s across much of the Ozarks. Rain chances then return Thursday at low-end levels before increasing more significantly late Friday.
Forecast outlooks indicate widespread rain is likely from Friday afternoon through Sunday morning, with the strongest signal for heavier rainfall across far southern Missouri. Probability data shows many locations — including Springfield, Branson, Joplin, Rolla, and West Plains — have a 50 to 70 percent chance of at least one inch of rain, with lower but notable chances for totals exceeding 1.5 to 2 inches in some areas.
The heaviest rainfall is most likely overnight Friday into Saturday, which could lead to slick road conditions along major corridors such as Interstate 44, Interstate 49, US-65, and US-63. While no flooding concerns have been issued at this time, drivers should be prepared for reduced visibility and ponding on roadways during heavier showers.
This forecast may be especially relevant for commuters, students, and weekend travelers moving through the region during late-night or early-morning hours.
Residents are encouraged to monitor National Weather Service updates as rainfall timing and amounts become more refined later this week.
