Eureka, California – Light to moderate rainfall moving across Northwest California is expected to impact travel through Wednesday night, particularly near major highways in Mendocino and Lake counties.
According to the US National Weather Service Eureka, a rainfall system developing Monday afternoon will move northeast through the evening, with precipitation continuing intermittently into midweek. The heaviest totals are forecast across inland and elevated areas, while coastal cities will see lighter accumulation.
Forecast rainfall totals show Ukiah could receive up to 1.61 inches, with Middletown near 1.01 inches and Clearlake around 0.94 inches by Wednesday night. Along US-101, communities including Willits (0.41 inches) and Fort Bragg (0.25 inches) may experience wet roadway conditions during peak commute hours. Coastal Highway CA-1 may also see periods of reduced visibility due to steady rainfall.
In Humboldt County, lighter totals are expected, with Eureka (0.03 inches), Arcata (0.06 inches), and Fortuna (0.06 inches) forecast to receive minimal accumulation. However, intermittent showers may still create slick conditions on bridges and shaded road segments, especially overnight and early morning.
The National Weather Service notes rainfall will occur in waves, with the most consistent precipitation falling Monday evening through early Tuesday, followed by additional rounds through Wednesday night. No flooding advisories have been issued at this time, but drivers are urged to allow extra travel time on US-101, CA-1, CA-20, and CA-29 during periods of steady rain.
This system may be especially relevant for commuters, students, and young workers traveling between inland valleys and coastal job centers during early morning and evening hours.
Residents are encouraged to monitor official forecasts and roadway conditions as the system progresses.
