Gaylord, MI – Additional snowfall and the potential for freezing drizzle are expected across parts of northern Michigan today, creating slippery road conditions and localized travel hazards through the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, areas north of the Mackinac Bridge may see around one additional inch of snow through this afternoon, while lighter snow accumulations of less than one inch are expected across much of the rest of northern Michigan. In addition to snow, freezing drizzle is possible, increasing the risk for icy road surfaces.

The timing of impacts is focused from this morning through mid to late afternoon, with the heaviest snow expected earlier in the day and freezing drizzle potentially developing as snow tapers off. This combination may lead to slippery and unpredictable driving conditions, particularly on untreated roads.

Travel corridors including Interstate 75, US-31, US-131, and M-32 may experience slick spots, especially on bridges, overpasses, and secondary roads. The National Weather Service warns that localized hazardous travel is possible, even where snowfall totals remain relatively light.

Forecasters emphasize that freezing drizzle can create a thin glaze of ice, which is often difficult to see but can significantly reduce traction. Drivers are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra travel time if traveling today.

No significant wind impacts are expected, but road conditions may change quickly as temperatures hover near freezing. Conditions should gradually improve later this evening as precipitation ends.

Students, commuters, and delivery drivers should remain alert for changing road conditions throughout the day, particularly during the afternoon hours.

Additional updates will be issued if precipitation coverage or impacts change.
