La Crosse, WI – Temperatures across western Wisconsin and southeast Minnesota are trending warmer heading into the weekend, though a chance for rain and snow may interrupt the warming trend on Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, high temperatures are expected to climb into the mid to upper 40s by Friday and Saturday, marking a noticeable improvement from recent colder conditions. Daytime highs today and Wednesday will generally range from the upper 30s to low 40s, with overnight lows remaining in the teens and 20s.

Forecasters indicate that rain and snow chances increase on Thursday, particularly for areas along and west of the Mississippi River, including communities near Interstate 90, US-14, US-61, and I-94. The probability of precipitation ranges from 20 to 45 percent, with precipitation type dependent on timing and surface temperatures.

While no significant accumulation or hazardous impacts are expected at this time, brief slick spots are possible if snow develops during cooler periods, especially on bridges, overpasses, and untreated secondary roads. Travel conditions may fluctuate during the day Thursday before improving again as temperatures continue to moderate.

By Friday, skies trend partly sunny, and highs are forecast between 39 and 47 degrees, with additional warming expected into Saturday, when temperatures may reach the low to upper 40s across much of the region. This gradual warming trend will support snowmelt and more comfortable outdoor conditions.

The National Weather Service notes that no major travel disruptions are anticipated, but drivers should remain alert Thursday if traveling west of the Mississippi River during precipitation periods.

Students, commuters, and weekend travelers can expect improving conditions as the week progresses.

Forecast updates will continue as Thursday’s precipitation chances become clearer.
