Monterey, CA – A Wind Advisory is in effect for Monterey and San Benito counties beginning Tuesday afternoon, with strong southerly winds expected to create hazardous travel and localized impacts through Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service San Francisco Bay Area/Monterey, the advisory runs from 4 p.m. Tuesday through 4 p.m. Wednesday. During this period, southerly winds of 15 to 25 mph are forecast, with gusts reaching up to 50 mph, particularly across exposed terrain and higher elevations.
The strongest winds are expected to impact communities and travel corridors along US-101, CA-68, CA-25, and CA-1, including areas near Monterey, Salinas, Hollister, Carmel Valley, King City, and surrounding valleys. Gusty conditions may make driving difficult for high-profile vehicles, especially during the evening and overnight hours.
The National Weather Service warns that unsecured outdoor objects may be blown around, increasing the risk of property damage. Tree damage is possible, and isolated power outages may occur where strong gusts impact power lines or weakened trees.
Winds will remain elevated overnight Tuesday into Wednesday before gradually easing later Wednesday afternoon as the system moves east. Coastal and ridge-top locations may experience stronger gusts compared to sheltered inland areas.
Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items, use caution when driving, and remain alert for falling debris. Drivers of trucks, trailers, and recreational vehicles should be prepared for sudden crosswinds along north–south roadways.
Students, commuters, and delivery drivers traveling during the advisory period should allow extra time and monitor local conditions.
Additional updates will be issued by the National Weather Service as conditions evolve.
