Wakefield, VA – A welcomed return to warmer temperatures is unfolding across eastern Virginia and northeast North Carolina today, bringing springlike conditions before a gradual cooldown later this week.
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, high temperatures today will range from the upper 40s to the lower 60s, with the warmest readings occurring across inland areas. Communities along major travel corridors such as Interstate 95, I-64, US-58, and US-13 are expected to experience noticeably milder conditions compared to recent days.
Forecasters report that today’s warmth will extend into the overnight hours, with low temperatures remaining above freezing, generally settling into the mid-30s to mid-40s. These mild nighttime temperatures will reduce the risk of frost and icy conditions on roadways, including bridges and elevated surfaces.
On Wednesday, another warm day is expected, with high temperatures similar to today, continuing the brief warming trend. Skies will remain mostly clear to partly cloudy, allowing for efficient daytime warming across the region.
Despite the pleasant conditions, the National Weather Service notes that this warm stretch will be short-lived. Temperatures are forecast to trend back toward near or slightly below normal later this week, signaling a return to more seasonable February weather.
No precipitation or hazardous weather is associated with today’s warmup, and no travel impacts are expected. Roads along I-95, I-64, and surrounding secondary highways should remain dry and clear.
This brief period of warmth may be noticeable for commuters, students, and outdoor workers who have endured colder conditions in recent weeks.
Residents are encouraged to enjoy the milder temperatures while remaining aware of changing conditions later in the week as cooler air returns.
