Grand Junction, CO – Clouds will linger across much of western Colorado today as the region prepares for a more active round of weather beginning Wednesday and continuing into Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, Tuesday will feature partly to mostly cloudy skies for most areas, with light precipitation possible in the northern mountains. Any precipitation today is expected to remain limited in coverage, with the majority of valleys staying dry through daylight hours.
Forecasters indicate that the main round of active weather will arrive Wednesday into Thursday, bringing widespread precipitation across western Colorado and eastern Utah. Rain will be the primary precipitation type for lower elevations, including communities along Interstate 70, US-50, and SH-13, while snow is more likely in the higher terrain, particularly north of I-70.
Tuesday high temperatures will range from the upper 40s to mid-50s across much of the region, including Grand Junction, Montrose, and Glenwood Springs. Mountain locations will remain cooler, especially where cloud cover persists throughout the day.
As precipitation becomes more widespread Wednesday, road conditions may deteriorate, particularly in the northern mountains and along higher-elevation passes. While no specific travel advisories have been issued at this time, drivers should anticipate wet roads in valleys and slick conditions at higher elevations, especially during overnight periods.
The National Weather Service notes that confidence is increasing in widespread precipitation coverage, though exact rainfall and snowfall amounts will continue to be refined with later forecasts.
Commuters, freight drivers, and students traveling along I-70 and surrounding routes are encouraged to monitor updates, especially if plans include mountain travel Wednesday night or Thursday.
Additional forecast updates will be issued as the midweek system approaches.
