Raleigh, NC – A surge of warmer air is pushing temperatures into the 60s and 70s across central North Carolina today, marking the region’s warmest conditions in several weeks.
According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, afternoon highs today will range from the mid-60s to mid-70s, with mostly sunny skies and southwest winds helping temperatures climb quickly through the day. The warmest readings are expected along major travel corridors such as Interstate 40, I-440, I-85, and US-1, including Raleigh, Durham, Cary, and surrounding communities.
Forecasters note that these temperatures are the warmest the region has experienced in nearly a month, providing a brief taste of springlike conditions. Winds out of the southwest will remain light to occasionally breezy, particularly during the afternoon hours, but no hazardous wind conditions are expected.
Tonight, temperatures will remain mild for early February standards. Overnight lows are forecast to fall into the low to mid-50s, especially near urban centers and along major roadways such as I-95 and US-70, where heat retention may limit cooling.
The National Weather Service indicates that Wednesday will be slightly cooler, though still above normal, before a cold front moves through late Wednesday into Thursday, returning temperatures closer to seasonal averages. No significant precipitation or severe weather is associated with the front at this time.
These warmer conditions may impact outdoor plans, early-season landscaping, and energy usage, particularly for commuters and students spending extended time outdoors today.
Residents are encouraged to enjoy the brief warmup while remaining aware of temperature changes later in the week. Updated forecasts will continue to be issued as the cold front approaches.
