Colorado – Snow dusts the high peaks while city streets stay dry, a sharp contrast that defines this morning across northeast and north-central Colorado. Cold air clings to the foothills. In Denver, the air feels cool but calm, with clouds holding tight early.
According to the National Weather Service in Denver/Boulder, light snow continues in the mountains today, mainly above 9,000 feet. Travel conditions begin to deteriorate late Wednesday afternoon as snowfall increases. Mountain passes, including sections near Berthoud Pass, Loveland Pass, and higher routes in Grand and Jackson counties, could turn slick and snow-packed.
Across the Front Range and plains, impacts remain limited today. Temperatures climb into the low 50s around Denver, Aurora, and Lakewood. Winds stay light, and visibility remains good. The calmer pattern will not last long in the high country.
By Wednesday afternoon, snow coverage expands in the mountains and continues into Thursday. Hazardous travel is expected at higher elevations as snow rates increase. Drivers heading west should plan extra time and carry winter gear. Conditions worsen after sunset Wednesday as colder air settles in.
Down on the plains, attention shifts to moisture rather than snow. Rain becomes possible Thursday afternoon and evening, with chances increasing into Thursday night. Roads may turn wet during the evening commute, especially along I-25 and Highway 36. Temperatures hover near 59 degrees, keeping precipitation mainly rain for Denver.
Friday remains unsettled, with another chance of rain and cooler air returning. Skies gradually clear heading into the weekend. Saturday turns sunny, with highs rebounding into the upper 50s, hinting at a Valentine’s weekend warm-up.
Looking ahead, NOAA’s 6–10 day outlook favors above-normal temperatures for much of Colorado. Despite fresh mountain snow, signs of a broader late-winter thaw continue to build.
