Washington, District of Columbia – A brief stretch of mild, springlike temperatures will continue across the Mid-Atlantic today before a cold front ushers in cooler conditions midweek.
According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington, temperatures across southern portions of the region, including areas south of Interstate 95, are expected to approach 60 degrees today. Elsewhere, including Baltimore, Frederick, and Hagerstown, highs will generally remain in the 40s, with northeastern Maryland staying closer to the upper 30s.
A cold front moving through the region tonight will bring a noticeable cooldown for Wednesday and Thursday. High temperatures Wednesday are forecast to range from the low 40s in Washington and Baltimore to the upper 30s across western Maryland and the Shenandoah Valley. Overnight lows will dip into the 20s and low 30s, especially in higher elevations and rural areas.
The cooling trend continues Thursday, with highs remaining in the upper 30s to low 40s across much of Maryland, northern Virginia, and the District. Areas along Interstates 70, 81, and 66 may feel the chill more noticeably during the morning commute as colder air settles in behind the front.
By Friday, temperatures begin to moderate slightly, with highs climbing back into the low to mid-40s. The weekend outlook remains less certain, though current forecasts suggest continued dry conditions with highs in the 40s and overnight lows near or below freezing.
Farther south, including Charlottesville and central Virginia, daytime highs today will reach the mid to upper 50s, before cooling into the 40s later in the week.
No significant precipitation is expected during this period, and travel conditions are anticipated to remain generally favorable. Residents are encouraged to dress for changing temperatures and monitor updates as the late-week forecast becomes clearer.
