Wichita, Kansas – Above-average temperatures are expected to persist across central, south-central, and southeast Kansas through the upcoming weekend, with increasing rain chances late Friday into Saturday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, daytime high temperatures will remain well above seasonal norms, climbing into the 50s and 60s through the end of the week. Some locations may briefly approach the upper 60s, particularly on Thursday, as southerly winds strengthen across the region.

Rain chances begin to increase late Friday, with forecast probabilities ranging from 20% to 40% Friday and rising to 40% to 70% on Saturday, especially across the southern half of Kansas. While widespread severe weather is not currently anticipated, periods of rain could affect outdoor activities and travel.

Gusty south winds are expected at times, particularly Friday and Saturday. These winds, combined with dry fuels and warm temperatures, may lead to elevated grassfire danger, especially in open and rural areas. Fire officials urge residents to avoid outdoor burning and use caution with activities that could spark fires.

Roadways including Interstates 35, 135, and 235, along with major corridors such as U.S. Highway 50 and U.S. Highway 77, may see changing travel conditions due to rain and gusty winds, particularly during nighttime hours Friday and Saturday.

Looking ahead to early next week, the Climate Prediction Center outlook indicates a 70–80% chance of above-average temperatures continuing across Kansas, with highs remaining in the 60s and possibly reaching the 70s in some locations. Periodic windy conditions may persist, keeping grassfire concerns elevated.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed of forecast updates as timing and rainfall coverage become clearer closer to the weekend.
