Pennsylvania – Breath hangs in the air this morning as a hard freeze grips sidewalks and parked cars sparkle with frost. The cold won’t last all day. Temperatures rebound toward the upper 30s, setting up a classic February problem once melting begins.

According to the National Weather Service, readings near 22 degrees early climb to around 38 by afternoon under mostly cloudy skies. Light rain develops later, with temperatures hovering near 31 to 32 degrees during the evening window. That combination creates a narrow but real threat for icy patches, especially on bridges, ramps, and untreated side streets.

Conditions turn brighter Wednesday as sunshine pushes highs near 40. Gusty winds over 20 mph dry pavement quickly, but shaded areas may stay slick longer. Commuters should watch spots along I-95, the Schuylkill Expressway, and neighborhood overpasses where runoff refreezes after dark.

Thursday stays seasonably cool with highs in the mid-30s and lighter winds. Attention then shifts to Valentine’s Day weekend. Saturday looks mild for February, topping out near 41. By Sunday, clouds thicken and precipitation chances rise. Latest guidance points to rain mixing with snow by late day, with temperatures hovering in the upper 30s. Any mix could turn slushy fast after sunset.

Looking ahead, NOAA’s 6–10 day outlook shows above-normal temperatures building across much of the East early next week. With the Great Lakes heavily frozen, that thaw-versus-ice contrast can fuel active systems, keeping winter hazards in play despite the warmer trend.

Plan extra braking distance, slow down on wet roads, and expect changing conditions after dark. Traveling this weekend? Let us know what you’re seeing where you are.
