Grand Junction, Colorado – A midweek pattern shift is expected to bring increasing precipitation and cooler temperatures across western Colorado, potentially affecting travel on major corridors including Interstate 70 and U.S. 550.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service in Grand Junction, Monday will remain dry for most areas, though occasional breezy conditions are expected at higher elevations. Those winds may impact high-profile vehicles along I-70 through the Grand Valley and Glenwood Canyon during the afternoon.

By Tuesday, light precipitation becomes possible across the northern mountains, including areas near Aspen along CO-82 and higher elevations surrounding Vail Pass. While widespread impacts are not expected Tuesday, slick spots could develop during early morning and evening travel periods.

The most significant change arrives Wednesday into Thursday, when the best chances for widespread precipitation spread across much of western Colorado. Rain is expected in lower elevations such as Grand Junction, Montrose, and Cortez, while mountain communities could see snow. Forecast precipitation probabilities reach 35–50% in several locations, including Durango along U.S. 550 and Steamboat Springs near U.S. 40.

High temperatures are forecast to remain above seasonal averages early in the week, with many lower-elevation communities reaching the upper 50s to mid-60s. However, the National Weather Service says temperatures will begin cooling toward the end of the week as the system exits the region.

Commuters, students, and young workers traveling midweek should monitor conditions, especially during morning and evening drive times on I-70, U.S. 50, and U.S. 550, where changing weather could slow travel.

Forecasters emphasize that conditions may evolve as the system approaches, and travelers are encouraged to check updated forecasts and road conditions before heading out later this week.
