Louisville, Kentucky – A brief break from winter cold is bringing milder temperatures to central Kentucky this week, helping melt lingering snowpack and improving travel conditions across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, Monday will be milder and mostly sunny, with morning clouds lingering in eastern Kentucky before clearing. Afternoon highs are expected to range from the low 40s north to near 60 degrees south, including Louisville, Elizabethtown, Bowling Green, and surrounding communities. Roads along major corridors such as Interstate 65, Interstate 64, and the Bluegrass Parkway should see improving conditions as temperatures rise above freezing.

Tonight, skies will be mostly clear with lows dropping into the 30s, and patchy fog is possible late, particularly in river valleys and low-lying areas near roadways. Drivers traveling early Tuesday morning are advised to watch for reduced visibility.

On Tuesday, clouds will increase, and the NWS notes a slight chance of rain showers during the afternoon and evening, mainly across south-central Kentucky, including areas near Bowling Green and Russell Springs. High temperatures are expected to reach the 50s north and low 60s south, continuing the above-normal trend.

Wednesday will bring another chance for showers in the morning, followed by clearing later in the day. Highs are forecast to range from the low 40s north to low 50s south, signaling a gradual cooldown but remaining relatively mild for early February.

Forecasters note that the warmer stretch should help reduce remaining snow and ice, though melting snow combined with fog could create slick spots overnight and during early morning commutes. The weather pattern may be especially relevant for commuters, students, and commercial drivers traveling along interstates during changing morning conditions.

Residents are encouraged to stay aware of updated forecasts as rain chances and temperatures fluctuate through midweek.
