Vermont wakes to stinging air that bites exposed skin within minutes.
Breath hangs thick, car doors creak, and sidewalks feel sharper underfoot this morning.

A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. across Vermont and northern New York. Wind chills range from 15 to 30 degrees below zero, according to the National Weather Service in Burlington. The coldest stretch arrived near sunrise, when frostbite risk peaked on exposed skin.

Temperatures stay frigid through the morning, even under sunshine. Burlington climbs only into the teens today. Winds remain light, but the cold lingers, keeping conditions dangerous for anyone outdoors without protection. Gloves, hats, and face coverings remain essential.

Attention then shifts to Tuesday into Wednesday, February 11, as a fast-moving system approaches. Snow develops Tuesday afternoon and intensifies into the evening. Meteorologists now tracking the system say snowfall may become heavy at times, especially during the Tuesday evening commute.

Current projections call for 2 to 5 inches of snow, with locally higher totals in the mountains. Roads may turn snow-covered quickly as temperatures stay well below freezing. Visibility could drop during heavier bands, especially along higher terrain routes and untreated roads.

Snow tapers Wednesday, but scattered snow showers may linger into the afternoon. Cold air holds firm, allowing little melting. Any daytime slush may refreeze after sunset, raising the risk of flash freezing and slick travel.

Late week conditions stay mostly cloudy and cold, with highs in the 20s.
Looking ahead, a moderating trend emerges late this week into early next week. Above-normal temperatures may begin easing the deep freeze across the Northeast, even as the Great Lakes remain heavily iced.
