Harlowton, Montana – Snowfall totals have trended upward through Sunday evening near Harlowton, raising travel and recreation concerns along US-191 and nearby routes.

According to the National Weather Service in Billings, updated snowfall projections indicate a 1 to 2 inch accumulation is increasingly likely for areas near Harlowton through Monday night. Forecasters noted a moderate chance totals will exceed 2 inches, while the probability of snowfall exceeding 6 inches remains low at this time.

The latest snowfall graphic issued at approximately 11 p.m. Sunday shows light to moderate snow extending across portions of central and south-central Montana. Areas closest to the foothills and higher elevations south and west of Harlowton face the greatest accumulation risk, particularly near recreation corridors and secondary highways.

Travel impacts may develop on US-191, as well as connecting routes leading toward the I-90 corridor, especially during overnight and early morning hours when road temperatures are colder. Snow-covered pavement and reduced visibility may affect drivers unfamiliar with winter conditions.

The National Weather Service emphasized that the forecast remains complex due to terrain influences and variable snow bands. Officials urged residents and travelers to monitor updated forecasts and road conditions before heading out, particularly those planning high-country recreation or early Monday commutes.

While snowfall amounts are not currently expected to reach warning criteria, even minor accumulations can lead to slick roads, especially on untreated surfaces and bridges. Young workers, students, and early-morning commuters may see the greatest impact during peak travel hours.
