Milwaukee, Wisconsin — Moderate snow continued across southeastern Wisconsin early Sunday, producing reduced visibility and hazardous travel conditions during the overnight and early-morning hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, snowfall rates of 0.5 to 1 inch per hour were reported within the heaviest snow band, including near Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport. Similar rates were observed across much of southeastern Wisconsin before the system began to weaken.

Forecasters said the snow is expected to taper off from southwest to northeast, with steadier snowfall ending around 3 a.m. near Madison-area counties and closer to 4 a.m. in the Milwaukee metro and lakeshore communities. After steady snow exits, light flurries may linger for several additional hours, though no significant additional accumulation is expected.

Travel impacts were most pronounced along major corridors including Interstate 94, Interstate 43, and Interstate 41, where snow-covered roads and briefly reduced visibility affected overnight drivers and early commuters. Road conditions are expected to gradually improve toward sunrise as snowfall diminishes.

The snow band progressed northeastward overnight, with the highest rates occurring within the narrow yellow-shaded zone highlighted by meteorologists. Areas outside the heaviest band still experienced steady snow but at lower rates.

While no additional heavy snow is expected today, untreated roads, bridges, and ramps may remain slick into the morning hours, especially where flurries persist.

The update is especially relevant for early-morning commuters, airport travelers, and overnight workers, as conditions may change quickly from snow-covered to slushy as plows and treatment crews respond.

Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and remain alert for changing road conditions until snow fully exits the region.
