Duluth, Minnesota – Periods of light snow and a wintry mix are expected to affect parts of northeastern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin through Sunday, creating occasional slick travel conditions.

According to the US National Weather Service in Duluth, a couple rounds of precipitation today and Sunday will bring light snow and possibly freezing drizzle, particularly late this afternoon and overnight. While most areas will see minimal impacts, patchy slick spots may develop where freezing drizzle mixes in.

Snow accumulations are expected to remain under one inch for most locations, though around one inch of snowfall is possible along the far North Shore, including areas near Grand Marais and Two Harbors. Any ice accumulation is expected to be light, mainly appearing as a thin glaze.

The greatest travel impacts are likely along major corridors such as Interstate 35, U.S. Highway 2, Minnesota Highway 53, and Minnesota Highway 61, especially during the afternoon, overnight, and early morning hours when temperatures hover near freezing. Bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads may become slick with little notice.

On Sunday, chances for a light wintry mix increase across the Minnesota Arrowhead and Borderlands, though precipitation coverage and amounts remain limited. Forecasters emphasize that while this is not a high-impact winter storm, even light icing can create hazardous driving conditions.

Motorists are advised to slow down, increase following distance, and remain alert for changing road conditions. Allow extra time for travel and watch for localized slick spots, especially near the edges of precipitation areas.

These conditions may be particularly relevant for weekend travelers, early-morning commuters, and outdoor workers, as road conditions can vary significantly over short distances.

Residents are encouraged to monitor official National Weather Service updates and local road reports as the weekend weather pattern evolves.
