Birmingham, Alabama – Cooler air has settled into central Alabama today following the passage of a cold front, bringing lower temperatures and breezy conditions.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service in Birmingham, Saturday will feature sunny skies with highs mainly in the 40s and 50s across the region. North winds of 5 to 15 miles per hour will add a chill, especially during the morning hours. The cooler conditions follow a cold front that moved through overnight.

Temperatures will drop sharply again tonight, with most areas expected to see lows fall back into the 20s. This may result in frost concerns for sensitive vegetation and cold conditions for anyone outdoors late Saturday night or early Sunday morning.

Communities along major corridors such as Interstate 65, Interstate 20, Interstate 59, U.S. Highway 78, and Interstate 85 will experience similar conditions, with cooler daytime travel and a noticeably colder night ahead. No precipitation is expected, and skies are forecast to remain clear.

The National Weather Service notes that warming will begin on Sunday as temperatures rebound into the 50s and 60s. The warming trend is expected to continue into the work week, with above-average temperatures returning to much of central Alabama.

For commuters, outdoor workers, and students, the colder morning conditions today and Sunday morning may require heavier layers, especially during early travel hours. Drivers should also be aware of the temperature drop overnight, particularly in sheltered or rural areas.

While no hazardous winter weather is expected, residents are encouraged to take precautions against the cold tonight, including protecting pets, plants, and exposed pipes where applicable.

Officials recommend continuing to monitor daily forecasts as temperatures trend upward into next week and conditions become more spring-like across the region.
