SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Utah will see a brief moderation in temperatures around Valentine’s Day, but winter weather is expected to remain a dominant feature across the state through Feb. 20, with periodic chances for snow and continued cold conditions, especially in mountain areas.

Along the Wasatch Front, including Salt Lake City, daytime highs are expected to climb into the low to mid-30s Friday and Saturday. While this represents a slight warmup, temperatures will still hover near freezing, allowing rain or a rain-snow mix at times before transitioning back to snow overnight as colder air settles in.

Northern and central Utah will remain colder overall, with highs mainly in the 20s and lows dropping into the teens. Southern Utah will be somewhat milder, though overnight temperatures will still fall below freezing, maintaining the potential for icy roads during the morning and evening hours.

Snow chances will continue intermittently statewide as weak weather systems move through the region. While widespread heavy snowfall is not expected, light accumulations could impact travel, particularly through mountain passes and higher elevations where conditions can change rapidly.

Winds may become gusty at times, especially across exposed valleys and mountain ridges, contributing to blowing snow and reduced visibility. Wind chills will make conditions feel colder, particularly overnight and during early morning hours.

Looking ahead to early next week, temperatures are forecast to remain near seasonal averages, with no extended warmup anticipated. Residents and travelers should plan for continued winter conditions through the Valentine’s Day weekend and into the following week, monitoring forecasts closely for any changes.
