BILLINGS, Mont. — Montana will see a temporary shift toward milder winter temperatures around Valentine’s Day, though snow chances and cold overnight lows will keep winter firmly in place through Feb. 20.

Daytime highs across much of southern and eastern Montana, including the Billings area, are forecast to climb into the upper 20s to low 30s on Friday and Saturday. While this represents a modest warmup compared to recent conditions, temperatures will still hover near or just below seasonal averages. Northern and higher-elevation areas are expected to remain colder, with highs staying in the teens and 20s.

Overnight lows will continue to fall into the single digits and teens statewide, maintaining the potential for icy conditions. Several weak weather disturbances may pass through the region during the period, bringing periodic chances for light snow. Accumulations are expected to be limited in most areas, but even light snowfall could impact travel, particularly during early morning and nighttime hours.

Winds may increase at times, especially across the plains, leading to areas of blowing snow and reduced visibility. Wind chills could dip well below zero overnight, even as daytime temperatures moderate slightly.

Looking ahead to early next week, temperatures are expected to remain relatively steady, with no sustained warming trend anticipated. Highs are forecast to remain near freezing at best, reinforcing a continued winter pattern.

Residents and travelers are encouraged to stay alert to forecast updates, as minor temperature fluctuations could influence snowfall coverage and road conditions during the Valentine’s Day weekend and beyond.
