WICHITA, Kan. — Kansas is expected to experience a brief moderation in temperatures heading into Valentine’s Day weekend, with daytime highs climbing above recent cold levels while rain and snow chances linger through Feb. 20.

High temperatures across much of central and eastern Kansas, including the Wichita area, are forecast to reach the low to mid-30s on Friday and Saturday. Southern portions of the state may push closer to the upper 30s, while northern Kansas remains slightly cooler. Overnight lows are expected to fall into the teens and lower 20s, keeping winter conditions firmly in place.

As milder air moves into the region, several weak weather systems may bring intermittent chances for light precipitation. Depending on timing and surface temperatures, precipitation may fall as rain, snow, or a rain-snow mix, particularly during overnight and early morning hours. While widespread heavy snowfall is not expected, light accumulations or patchy ice could still impact travel.

Winds may increase at times, especially across open areas of the state, contributing to reduced visibility if snow develops and adding to cold wind chills during nighttime hours.

Looking ahead to early next week, temperatures are expected to remain near seasonal averages, with highs generally holding in the 30s and lows staying below freezing. This suggests no extended warmup, but rather a continuation of fluctuating winter conditions.

Drivers and travelers are advised to monitor forecast updates closely, as small temperature changes could significantly influence precipitation type and road conditions during the Valentine’s Day period.
