CHICAGO, Ill. — Illinois is expected to see a modest temperature rebound around Valentine’s Day, though winter weather concerns will continue as periodic chances for snow and mixed precipitation linger from Feb. 14 through Feb. 20.

High temperatures on Valentine’s Day are forecast to reach the low to mid-30s across much of northern and central Illinois, including Chicago, while southern portions of the state may climb slightly higher. Overnight lows are expected to remain below freezing statewide, generally in the teens and 20s, helping to preserve snow and ice on untreated surfaces.

Forecast guidance suggests a series of weak weather disturbances moving through the region, favoring intermittent light snow rather than a single major storm. Snow showers may develop at times through the Valentine’s Day weekend and into early next week, with accumulations remaining generally light but capable of creating slick travel conditions, particularly during overnight and early morning hours.

In northeastern Illinois, temperatures near the freezing mark may allow for brief periods of rain or a rain-snow mix during the daytime, especially on Valentine’s Day itself. Any mixed precipitation is expected to transition back to snow as colder air returns, increasing the potential for refreezing and icy conditions after sunset.

No sustained warmup is expected through the end of the forecast period, with temperatures hovering near seasonal averages into late February. While impacts are expected to be manageable, residents are encouraged to stay alert for forecast updates, especially those traveling or making outdoor plans between Feb. 14 and Feb. 20.
