WILMINGTON, Del. — Delaware is expected to see a gradual moderation in temperatures heading into Valentine’s Day weekend, though lingering chances for rain and snow may keep weather conditions unsettled from Feb. 14 through Feb. 20.
High temperatures on Valentine’s Day are forecast to reach the low to mid-30s statewide, including Wilmington and surrounding communities. Overnight lows are expected to dip into the 20s, allowing for periods of mixed precipitation as weak weather systems pass through the Mid-Atlantic.
Forecast models suggest a series of fast-moving disturbances rather than a single major storm. These systems could bring light rain, snow, or a brief wintry mix, particularly during nighttime and early morning hours when temperatures hover near freezing.
Coastal Delaware may lean more toward rain during the daytime, while inland areas could see occasional snow or mixed precipitation. Any snowfall is expected to be light, but even minor accumulations could lead to slick travel conditions, especially on bridges, overpasses, and untreated roadways.
Repeated freeze-thaw cycles throughout the period may increase the risk of patchy ice, particularly during morning commutes. While temperatures are expected to remain near or slightly above seasonal averages, no sustained warmup is anticipated.
Residents planning Valentine’s Day travel or outdoor activities are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts closely, as small temperature changes could influence precipitation type and impacts across Delaware between Feb. 14 and Feb. 20.
