Manteno, Illinois — The Village of Manteno has announced the temporary closure of the Legacy Park Ice Rink due to warming temperatures that have made ice conditions unsafe for public use.
Village officials shared the update Friday, noting that despite recent winter weather, current temperatures are too warm to maintain safe ice thickness. As a result, the ice rink at Legacy Park will remain closed until weather conditions allow for safe reopening.
The outdoor rink, a popular seasonal attraction for residents and families, relies on sustained cold temperatures to ensure the ice surface remains solid and stable. When temperatures rise above freezing for extended periods, the ice can weaken rapidly, creating hazardous conditions even if the surface appears frozen.
Officials emphasized that the closure is being made out of an abundance of caution, prioritizing public safety. Skating on compromised ice can pose a serious risk of falls, injuries, or ice failure.
The Village of Manteno encouraged residents to stay tuned for updates regarding the rink’s status as colder temperatures return. Updates will be shared through official village communication channels and social media pages.
Residents with questions about the closure or other park amenities are invited to contact the Village of Manteno directly for additional information.
