Huntsville, Alabama – A cold front moving through North Alabama tonight will bring a chilly overnight period before a warming trend develops heading into next week.

According to the National Weather Service Huntsville, skies will become mostly cloudy this evening as the front passes, allowing colder air to settle into the region overnight. Low temperatures are expected to range from 26 to 32 degrees, with the coldest readings in sheltered and rural locations.

Travelers along Interstate 565, Interstate 65, and U.S. Highway 72 may encounter cold pavement late tonight and early Saturday morning, though no precipitation or icy conditions are currently expected. Saturday will feel noticeably cooler, with afternoon highs limited to the low and mid-40s across much of the Tennessee Valley.

Despite the cool start to the weekend, a gradual warming trend will begin Sunday as high pressure shifts east and southerly winds return. High temperatures on Sunday are forecast to rise into the low to mid-50s, with increasing sunshine improving outdoor conditions.

By Monday, temperatures are expected to climb further, reaching the low to mid-60s across North Alabama, including communities near I-65 in Decatur and Athens, US-72 in Huntsville and Scottsboro, and US-43 near Florence. Overnight lows will also moderate into the 30s and 40s by early next week.

The National Weather Service notes that the upcoming warmup marks the start of a milder pattern, offering a noticeable contrast to the colder air arriving tonight. No significant rain is expected during this period, keeping travel and outdoor plans largely unaffected.

Residents, commuters, and students should dress for cold conditions tonight and Saturday morning, then prepare for improving weather as temperatures rebound. The warming trend may be especially noticeable for early-week travel and outdoor activities.
