Upper Hudson Valley and Southern Green Mountains – Snow and gusty winds are expected to create hazardous travel conditions from Friday evening through Saturday, as Winter Weather Advisories take effect across parts of Massachusetts, New York, and Vermont.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. Friday to 7 p.m. Saturday for Northern Berkshire County in Massachusetts, Southern Washington and Eastern Rensselaer counties in New York, and Bennington and Western Windham counties in Vermont.

Forecasters expect 3 to 6 inches of snow across the advisory area. Winds may gust up to 35 mph, which could lead to blowing and drifting snow, especially in exposed and higher-elevation locations. Visibility may be significantly reduced at times.

The highest snowfall totals are expected in the northern Berkshires and the southern Green Mountains, including higher terrain along the Rensselaer Plateau. Snow-covered roads and periods of blowing snow may make travel difficult, particularly overnight and during the day Saturday.

Communities impacted include Pittsfield, North Adams, Dalton, and Hancock in Massachusetts; Hudson Falls, Fort Edward, Greenwich, Cambridge, Hoosick Falls, and Stephentown in New York; and Bennington, Pownal, Stratton, and Londonderry in Vermont.

Officials warn that slippery road conditions are likely, especially on secondary roads, hills, bridges, and untreated surfaces. Conditions may vary sharply with elevation, with more hazardous travel in mountainous areas.

Motorists are urged to slow down and use caution while traveling, allow extra stopping distance, and be prepared for reduced visibility in blowing snow. Those traveling through higher terrain should plan for winter driving conditions throughout the day Saturday.

Snow is expected to taper off Saturday evening as the system exits the region, with gradual improvement in travel conditions overnight.
