Central and Southeast Virginia – A brief burst of snow is expected to create slippery road conditions Friday evening, prompting a Winter Weather Advisory across a large portion of the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. Friday for portions of central, east central, south central, and southeast Virginia.

Forecasters say a quick-moving band of snow will bring 1 to 2 inches of accumulation, enough to make roads slick and hazardous in a short period of time. The timing of the snowfall is expected to impact the Friday evening commute, particularly on untreated roads and elevated surfaces.

The advisory covers a broad area, including Goochland, Powhatan, Amelia, Nottoway, Brunswick, Dinwiddie, Prince George, Chesterfield, Henrico, Hanover, Louisa, Charles City, New Kent, James City, Greensville, Sussex, Southampton, Surry, King William, and King and Queen counties, as well as the cities of Richmond, Hopewell, Petersburg, and Colonial Heights.

While snowfall totals are relatively light compared to areas farther west, officials warn that even minor accumulations can lead to dangerous driving conditions, especially as temperatures remain cold enough for snow to stick to roadways.

Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and use caution, particularly during periods of reduced visibility or heavier snowfall. Motorists can check the latest road conditions by calling 511.

Conditions are expected to improve later this evening as the snow tapers off and the advisory expires.
