Idaho wakes to clear skies, but the air feels heavy and unmoving.

Light winds and a strong temperature inversion have settled over the Treasure Valley. An Air Stagnation Advisory remains in effect through Sunday night, allowing pollutants to build near the surface. Conditions may look calm, yet air quality slowly worsens with each passing hour.

Early temperatures sit in the mid-30s, and visibility remains good. Still, smoke, vehicle emissions, and other pollutants become trapped under the inversion. People with asthma, heart disease, or respiratory issues may feel symptoms increase as the day goes on.

Clouds gradually increase today. Highs reach the mid-50s, which is mild for February. Winds stay weak, offering little relief. Limit outdoor exertion if you notice throat irritation or shortness of breath. Consider reducing wood-burning whenever possible.

Tonight turns cooler, dropping near 33 degrees. The stagnant pattern strengthens after sunset, when pollutants concentrate closer to the ground. Conditions remain unhealthy for sensitive groups into Saturday morning.

Saturday brings more sunshine and highs near 58 degrees. The warm air aloft keeps the inversion locked in place. Air quality may fluctuate but remains a concern through the day. Plan errands earlier if symptoms tend to worsen later.

Sunday looks cloudier and slightly warmer, near 60 degrees. The first meaningful change arrives late Sunday night. Rain becomes likely, helping scour out trapped pollutants and improve air quality heading into Monday.

Monday feels fresher. Highs drop to around 50 degrees, but light winds and clearing skies signal improving conditions. By Tuesday, highs settle in the upper 40s with better air mixing.

Looking toward the 6โ€“10 day outlook, above-normal temperatures return, and stronger weather systems should prevent prolonged stagnation events. Winter inversions remain possible, but longer breaks are ahead.

For now, limit outdoor exposure, check on vulnerable neighbors, and watch for symptoms as air quality changes.
